The girls and I left Portland, OR and headed north for Seattle, WA. We decided to stop at Mount St. Helens on the way north. I was in Spokane, WA, when Mount St. Helens erupted in 1980, so it was interesting to see the area and the damage the volcano had done, which is still evident. I was on the last plane out of Spokane, WA on May 18, 1980. There was so much ash in the air in Spokane at 3 p.m. on May 18, 1980 it looked like midnight. The reason we were able to leave Spokane was that we were headed east for Boise, Idaho and then south to Los Angeles, CA.
