USS Midway

Mari and I took a drive down to San Diego to see the USS Midway

Downtown San Diego

When you visit the USS Midway, it is like experiencing life aboard one of America's longest-serving aircraft carriers.  There are 60 exhibits with a collection of 29 restored aircraft.  The self-guided audio tour is narrated by Midway sailors and brings the carrier's history to life.

The USS Midway was an aircraft carrier of the United States Navy and the lead ship of its class.  The Midway was commissioned a week after the end of World War II and was the largest ship in the world until 1955, as well as the first U.S. aircraft carrier too big to transit the Panama Canal.  The revolutionary hull design was based on the planned Montana-class battleship, which gave it better maneuverability than previous carriers.  The ship operated for 47 years, during which time it saw action in the Vietnam War and served as the Persian Gulf flagship in 1991's Operation Desert Storm.  The ship was decommissioned in 1992 and is the only remaining U.S. aircraft carrier of the World War II era that is not an Essex-class aircraft carrier.

Please enjoy the rest of the pictures of the Midway and the surrounding area:

Oregon, Washington-Day 11-Seattle back to Portland

The girls and I left Seattle and headed back to Portland via Astoria.  One of these days, I would really like to drive around Olympic National Park, which is near Seattle; but that would probably taken us another couple of days and we didn't have the time.   I love Victorian homes, so, Astoria was awesome for me, as well as being on the coast.

Enjoy the pictures!

Oregon, Washington-Day 10-City tour in Seattle, WA

The girls and I took a city tour of Seattle, WA.  We had a great time.  We had lunch at Pike's Place Market, got to go up in the Space Needle, plus saw a number of other places, which you will see in the pictures!
